WADA commends Ethiopia’s anti-doping work

Addis Ababa, October 22, 2020 (FBC) –Commissioner of Ethiopian Sports Commission, Elias Shikur, has held talks with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) President, Witold Banka.
In the discussion held via a videoconference today, Commissioner Elias said doping has become a threat to human health, on top of affecting the sport.
Ethiopia has given due emphasis to raise awareness of athletes and implement anti-doping rules to sustainably prevent and control the use of doping in sports, he said.
The Commissioner added that works are underway to maintain Ethiopia’s global reputation through preventing the use of performance-enhancing substances.
He further said efforts will be exerted to make Ethiopia the leading country in Africa towards implementing WADA’s five-year strategic plan.
After commending Ethiopia’s efforts to prevent and control the use of doping, Banka said these efforts could be exemplary for other countries. He also pledged WADA’s support to Ethiopia’s anti-doping work.
