Athlete Retirement Procedure
Retirement Procedures
Athletes may retire from competition at any time. So, they are supposed to promptly submit their application request of retirement for ETH-NADO, Their Respective National Federation and the International Federation in writing through fax, courier or email by filling the ETH-NADO Retirement Request Form.
After then, ETH-NADO will review the retirement application and provide the athlete with thewritten notification as perarticle 5.1 of its rule. As a consequence, the athletewill be removed from the National Registered Testing Pool (RTP) and will no longer have to comply with certain athlete requirements such as providing whereabouts information.Whereas, any athlete who has not provided advance written notice of retirement to ETH-NADO and then refuses to participate in a ETH-NADO out-of competition (OOC) test claiming retirement will be subject to an anti-doping rule violation. To confirm retirement, an athlete will receive a retirement letter from ETH-NADO stating the date of retirement, withdrawal from retirement information, and return from retirement options, should an athlete wish to return to competition at a later date.As per article 5.7 of the ETH-NADO Rule, an Athlete in ETH-NADO’s Registered Testing Pool who has given notice of retirement to ETH-NADO may not resume competing in International Events or National Events until he/she has given ETH-NADO written notice of his/her intent to resume competing and has made him/herself available for Testing for a period of six months before returning to competition, including (if requested) complying with the whereabouts requirements of the International Standard for Testing and Investigations. WADA, in consultation with ETH-NADO and the Athlete’s International Federation, may grant an exemption to the six-month written notice rule where the strict application of that rule would be manifestly unfair to an Athlete. This decision may be appealed under Article 13 of the Rule.
